Singular pieces

"Love"

I first saw this image on the front of a "Lee Valley" catalogue and was taken by its elegance. And awed even more by the seemingly impossible entanglement of the characters. Seven years later I gave it a try and it now has home as a centre piece for our headboard. A perfect location for a carving called "Love."

"Father and Son"

To have the opportunity to even attempt this piece was an honour. My great-grandfather Efren Atkinson was the original designer of the Cape Island boat and his son, Herbert (my namesake) carried on the tradition. Several of Herbert's sons became boatbuilders and their boats can be found around the world. Greg Symonds, my cousin. built these fine vessels for his brother, Kirk and Kirk's son, Patrick.

"A High of Zero" - Poems to the Twelve Months

"A High of Zero" was my first published work. The original book with hand-carved walnut covers, illuminated by B.W. Chubbs and bound by Tara Bryan was purchased by the National Library and now resides in the National Book Preservation Centre in Gatineau, Quebec. Subsequently, one hundred and fifty leather bound copies were produced. That was eight years ago. As a celebration of my sixtieth birthday, an additional sixty books were produced.
